I've actually been on /b/ for a couple of years now, and yes. There is ALOT of crap that goes flying around, but there are also genuine conversations with useful information there. I have actually learned things from /b/, I have laughed, cried, felt pity and anger. Freedom and anonymity actually do provide a breeding ground for the exchange of information. The problem is that there is a "sweet spot" for size. Too many and the noise drowns out any real conversation. Too few and people feel obligated to post SOMETHING just to keep the board moving (it hasn't been like this for a long time). And yes, there is a mob mentality, but that will exist for ANY group of people simply as a way to identify oneself. If by some happenstance, 3.14 chan grew large enough, I suspect we would see much of the same here.
