Is it too much trouble to be able to use a youtube video instead of a picture?

And can anything be done about thumbnail quality?

Seems like I have to choose a imageboard or a mediaboard.
I will see if the admin of imageboard4free can do anything about it...

Thank you!
And I don't know, it was a suggestion but it's cool. All the thumnails just seem a bit...scratchy.

I know what you mean, the thumbnails are not amazing quality, but nor are they meant to be. Its a matter of weighing up quality .vs. space; as thumbnails are only meant to give you a very brief preview of an image rather than an very detailed view, it seems wise to have worse-quality thumbnails that are a smaller size than high-quality thumbnails that suck up all file space.

I hope you see where I'm coming from. Currently I have the quality of thumbnails set at 75%, which I personally think is a reasonable balance between space and quality.

I've added some moderate-quality resampling to the thumbnail creation system, its not brilliant but it should make the thumbnails a bit smoother without taking up much more space.

Thanks for making this board anon. We should all really consider using this board instead of the /sci/ textboard. If we keep it under wraps, it might even be a safe haven for us when 4chan is down too (like it is now).

Can we change the the color from yotsuba to burichan? I think the blue and purple will help remind everyone that this is a sfw board.

most imageboards like iichan uses the red(futaba) style in worksafe and non-worksafe 7chan uses the blue in worksafe and non-worksafe boards.
Only 4chan uses the blue/futaba style to indicate worksafe/non-worksafe isn't it?

Many other imageboards use this color in worksafe boards and I like this style.
I don't know if most of our userbase agrees with me or you. Maybe I will change it to a color more related to science, but I'm not sure about what color would it be... White background and blue threads?

You can use the demo board and try to make your own style

Save the text and post it here
A screen shot with a post and a reply would help...

The most I could do with the 'manage styles' section would be to copy-paste some stuff from stylish. I find the dark themes tend to be my favorite, but flax looks better.

I don't understand a thing about this styles thing, I will see if I can finish the [S] Style.
You can choose a style in http://www.ib4f.com/board/science/ in Styles:

Is it possible to make thumbnails for the embedded videos? Right now the videos are huge compared to the picture thumbnails.
Maybe something like the 4chan Firefox extension where the thumbnail gets replaced by the picture when you click on it.

I will ask ## SUPER ADMIN about it
For now I can change the video size.

I doubt it. Each of the embedding sites use different protocols and systems. Getting thumbnails for them would be horrifically complex. My best advice would be for the admin to shrink down the size of the embedded-videos to the maximum-thumbnail size (200x200 seems to work well, most other boards are using that size), so it fits in correctly. You then just need to click the fullscreen or whatever button to see it larger.

I suppose I could possibly have something like the lightbox script where there is link or something in place of the embedded video and have it so when you click it it creates a panel in the middle of the window where you can see the video full-size.

How about make the video small (200x200) until the user click on it?

I'll see if thats possible. I'm not entirely sure you can hook into click events on embedded objects though.

Anonymous 10/5/2009(Sun)09:40:17 No.17980
Is it ok for you now? I modified the code so by default it shows the video at thumbnail size, but when your mouse is over it it will expand to the embed size the admin sets.

i would like a bigger comment-box for posts/replies, since some of the discussions here could become quite wordy.

by bigger comment box i meant wider, not really character-limit. The area for writing is about a third as wide as the area for reading on my 16:10 screen by default and the difference only gets bigger as the font size decreases

its not a critical thing at all, just that the comment box is force to scroll down when it really shouldnt have to. i like to be able to see what i've written at a glance before posting.

I see.

I don't know if a bigger comment box would look good...

I know that with a serious board there are some big comments, but most of comments are short and this design fit them.

Also, seems like as a ADMIN I don't have so much power over the basic design of the board.

I will ask SUPER ADMIN latter about make the comment box bigger when you click in it like in some text boards...

I don't know if he will do it.
Until that you can write in the notepad or another progam and them copy and paste the text in the comment box.

the whole embedded videos changing size when your mouse runs over them thing is really annoying.

Yeah, I don't know much about programming and the guy that made it possible doesn't know how to change the size only when you click on it
